Whether you are a small local business or a major national retailer, we will protect your interests with sound, professional legal advice and effective advocacy from the boardroom to the courtroom.
Founded in 1953, Matheny Law is one of Salem’s most reputable law firms. An enduring record and the respect of colleagues, as well as clients who trust and rely upon our counsel, speaks for the values of the firm.
Located in downtown Salem, Oregon, we provide clients throughout Oregon with exceptional legal counsel and advocacy in the following areas of practice:
The firm was founded in 1953 by Edward L. (Ned) Clark, Jr. and Malcolm Marsh, the latter of which helped lead the firm for more than three decades. In 1987, Mr. Marsh was appointed to the Federal bench by President Ronald Reagan. After Mr. Marsh’s appointment to the federal bench, the firm continued on under Mr. Clark’s leadership and guidance. Mr. Clark, whose remarkable career was further distinguished by serving as president of the Oregon State Bar, continued to practice law until his retirement in 1995. He passed away in 2009.
Since the departure of the founding partners, the firm has continued on and is still based on the principals it was founded on. The tradition of excellent lawyers has never ceased.
The firm was known as Fetherston Edmonds, LLP, until the two senior partners passed the torch as they moved on to retirement and the judiciary. The Hon. James Edmonds, one of the firm’s namesakes and one of its longest serving partners was appointed to the Marion County Circuit Court bench in 2021.
Today, the firm is led by Chris Matheny. Mr. Matheny has been a partner in the firm since 2012. Under his leadership, the firm continues to provide sound advice and effective representation to large corporations, local farmers, and small and up-and-coming local businesses - while still maintaining a deep connection to its hometown in the Willamette Valley.
No matter what size or type of business you operate, Matheny Law has the knowledge, experience and passion to represent your interests.
